The cultivation of the tobacco leaves used to make a Habano differs according to their their final function in the cigar. To put it briefly, there are two ways: shade（for wrappers）and sun (for binders and fillers).

用于制作古巴雪茄的烟叶，根据其不同的用途，有不同的种植方法。简单地说，就是阴植（茄衣）和阳植（茄套和茄芯）。

Wrapper leaves are exceptional in every respect. Some 10-20 days into the growing season, the fields are entirely enclosed undercanopies of muslin cloth – a remarkable sight.

用来做茄衣的烟叶在各方面都是特殊的。在生长季节大约10-20天，田地被完全封闭在平纹细布的檐篷下，这是一个非凡的景象。

Each plant is then individually strung to theframe. Irrigation is critical. The plants must get just the right quantity ofwater at the moment they need it.

Cuban sunlight works its magic tobring on the rich variety of flavours in the sun-grown plants that supply the filler and binder leaves.

Around 40 days after planting out, the harvest can begin; each leaf must be picked by hand. Only two or three leaves can be taken at a time, with days towait between each picking. The harvesting of a single plant takes close to 30days to complete.

种植后大约40天，收获可以开始。每片叶子都必须手工采摘。一棵烟草植株每次只能采摘两到三片叶子，每次采摘之间会有几天时间。采摘一般是从根部向上。要完整地采摘完单株烟草，大约需要30天。

The harvested leaves are taken to the farmer’s barn for air curing –just the first of many stages that the leaf has yet to pass through.

The leaves are sewn in pairs and hung astride poles which are placedon racks in the barn.

As the leaves cure, so the pole is raised progressively higher in theracks. Ventilation and light must be constantly adjusted to allow for naturalvariations in temperature and humidity. This process lasts for around 50 days.
